Preparing for Your Stay: Top 10 FAQs
Visiting a traditional Japanese Ryokan for the first time can be exciting, but you might have a few questions. At Yubana Mankai in Izu-Atagawa, we welcome guests from all over the world every day. Here are the top 10 questions we receive from our international travelers.
1. Are tattoos allowed in the hot springs?
Yes, absolutely! We have 6 private hot spring baths (Kashikiri) that are free of charge. Since these are private spaces for you and your partner/family, you can enjoy the onsen without worrying about tattoos at all.
2. Do I need to reserve the private baths?
No reservation is required. You can use any available bath whenever you like. Just lock the door from the inside and enjoy. Feel free to try all six different baths during your stay!
3. Can you accommodate vegetarian or allergy-free diets?
Yes, we can. Please let us know at least 3 days before your arrival. We can prepare menus excluding meat or specific allergens. For strict dietary requirements (like complete removal of Dashi/fish stock), please consult with us in advance.
4. How do I get there from Tokyo?
The easiest way is the “Limited Express Odoriko” train from Tokyo Station. It takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes directly to Izu-Atagawa Station. Our ryokan is just a 3-minute walk from the station.
5. Do you offer a shuttle service from the station?
Yes, we provide a free shuttle service to and from Izu-Atagawa Station between 14:30 and 17:00. Once you arrive at the station, please give us a call at 0557-23-1133, and we will pick you up immediately.
6. Can I leave my luggage before check-in?
Of course! You can drop off your bags at the front desk. Feel free to explore the beach or the town’s iconic steam towers while you wait for your room.
7. Are children allowed to stay?
To maintain a quiet and relaxing atmosphere for couples, we are an adults-only ryokan (12 years and older). We appreciate your understanding.
8. Does the staff speak English?
Yes, we have English-speaking staff members. We also use translation devices and provide English information guides to ensure smooth communication.
9. What time is dinner served?
Dinner usually starts at 18:00 or 18:30. We will ask for your preference during check-in to ensure your Kaiseki meal (featuring local Kinmedai fish) is served at its best.
10. Are there convenience stores or restaurants nearby?
There are small shops and local restaurants near the station. However, most close early in the evening. We highly recommend booking a plan that includes dinner to fully enjoy the local cuisine.
